# Placing a Bet

## Bet Types (Season One)

For Season One, ZED supports single bets only:

| Bet Type | You Win If... |
| -------- | ------------------------------ |
| Win      | Your horse finishes 1st        |
| Place    | Your horse finishes 1st or 2nd |

**Coming later.** Exotic bets (Quinella, Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta) and multi-leg parlays are planned for future seasons.

## Bet Limits

| Bet Type | Minimum Stake | Maximum Stake |
| -------- | ------------- | ------------- |
| Single   | 1 credit      | 1,000 credits |

All limits are in USD-equivalent credits.

## Step-by-Step: Place a Single Bet

1. From the Lobby or Race Detail page, find a race that's still open for betting.
2. Tap a horse in the runners list.
3. The Bet Slip opens (it floats over the page so you can keep browsing).
4. Choose Win or Place.
5. Enter your stake (between 1 and 1,000 credits).
6. Confirm the potential return shown next to the stake.
7. Tap Place Bet.

The bet is now active. Your credit balance updates immediately.

## The Bet Slip

The Bet Slip is persistent. You can:

* Add multiple bets across different races before confirming.
* Adjust stakes line by line.
* Remove individual selections.
* See total stake and total potential return at the bottom.

## Fixed Odds

ZED uses fixed odds. Whatever odds you saw when you placed the bet are the odds you'll be paid out at — even if more bets come in afterward and shift the odds for other players. The house bears the risk.

## Cancelling a Bet

You can cancel a bet at any time before betting closes on that race.

1. Open the Bet Slip or Bet History.
2. Find your active bet.
3. Tap Cancel.
4. The full stake is refunded to your balance instantly.

Once betting closes (50 s into the race window), cancellation is no longer possible.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://zed.gambitpro.com/betting-basics/05-placing-a-bet.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
